Thank you, Ward II neighbors, for electing me to Summit Common Council! I look forward to serving you and to an energetic dialogue and involvement by all in our Summit community.

Dear Neighbor,
I would be honored and delighted to serve on Summit's Common Council, representing the residents of Ward 2. Through its actions, Council helps shape Summit's character and makes it the kind of city that we love and are proud to call home. I have the skills, the temperament and the civic motivation to be an effective Council team member. I have energetically begun my campaign by listening to your concerns as I visit neighborhoods and attend community events. I'm meeting with individuals and groups all over town, asking questions to be informed on community issues. I look forward to meeting you, sharing ideas and being resourceful to putting them into action.

My Community Involvement
I have been actively involved in neighborhood, City, school, religious and non-profit groups in our Summit community since moving here in 1995. I served on the City's Historic Preservation Commission for six years, which exposed me to zoning, planning and master plan issues. As a trustee of the Summit Area Public Foundation, I have had the opportunity to learn of the needs and assist many of the non-profits in our area. I was one of the early board members of Summit Supports Our Troops, which is now Bonds of Courage. I have been an involved parent and volunteer in the schools and Scout troops, tutored ESL students, and served as a religious ed teacher at St. Teresa's. This wide network of connections in our community is a great resource for me in reaching out, listening and resolving community issues.

My Family
My husband Charlie and I chose Summit as our home 18 years ago to raise our two sons. This year we celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! Our son David is a junior at Georgetown, and our son Michael is a sophomore at the University of Chicago. I was born outside of Pittsburgh and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC. I attended Fort Hunt High School there, earned a BS in Commerce with Distinction from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from the College of William and Mary.

My Business Experience
My 24 years of finance, planning and process management experience equip me with key skills for Council guidance, analysis and decision-making. With leadership positions in Finance and Purchasing, I led high performance teams spanning many disciplines. As Assistant Controller, I was responsible for accounting, budgeting and controls and, as a Director in Purchasing, I implemented high profile technology projects. I am effective in bringing diverse groups together, building teams to improve processes and achieving results.

My Focus
As a Summit Common Council member, my focus will be to ensure that our city is efficient and effective in providing services to our residents. My goals include creating long term plans to limit spending and taxes, enriching our town and schools to attract and retain a diverse resident and business community, and expanding knowledge through communication so we have involvement by all in all things Summit. This is the time for new ideas and a new voice on Council!

I look forward to seeing you around town and encourage you to contact me with your thoughts and ideas as we shape Summit's future together.

Warm regards,

Sandra Lizza
